After breakfast, drive to Kilimanjaro National Park Gate for registration and begin the climb. Hike through the rainforest to Mandara Hut, observing towering eucalyptus trees, birds, and blue monkeys. Optional side trip to Maundi Crater offers great views of the surroundings.

Ascend from Horombo Hut, leaving the last water point, into the saddle between Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Reach Kibo Hut (4,700 m / 15,400 ft) at the base of the crater wall. Rest for the remainder of the day in preparation for the early morning summit push.
